The Blueberry Pie Bombs Grandma Made

The Blueberry Pie Bombs Grandma Made for Me Every Summer

When I was growing up, summer meant spending long afternoons at my grandmother’s house. Her kitchen always smelled like something sweet baking in the oven. Of all the treats she made, her blueberry pies were my favorite. The berries were always plump and juicy, wrapped inside a flaky crust that tasted like pure comfort.

One hot afternoon in July, Grandma called me into the kitchen with a smile on her face. She said she had been working on a new dessert just for us. I watched as she rolled out rounds of soft biscuit dough and filled them with deep purple blueberry filling. Then she folded the dough around the filling and shaped them into little round pastries.

“What are those?” I asked curiously.

Grandma laughed and said, “They’re my blueberry pie bombs.”

She brushed each little pastry with melted butter, sprinkled them with sugar, and placed them into her air fryer. Just a few minutes later, the kitchen filled with the sweet smell of baked blueberries and buttery dough. When they came out, they were golden brown and slightly crisp on the outside.

The first bite was unforgettable. The warm blueberry filling burst out of the soft dough, sweet and slightly tart at the same time. The pastry was flaky and buttery, and the sugar on top added just the right touch of sweetness.

We ate them straight from the basket, laughing and enjoying the warm summer afternoon together.

Now that I’m older, I still make Grandma’s blueberry pie bombs for my own family. Every time I bake them, the smell brings me back to her cozy kitchen and those simple, happy days.

Grandma’s Blueberry Pie Bombs Recipe

  • 1 cup blueberry pie filling

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Separate the biscuits and flatten each one into a small circle.

  2. Place about one tablespoon of blueberry pie filling in the center of each piece of dough.

  3. Brush each dough ball with melted butter and sprinkle sugar on top.

  4. Preheat an air fryer to 330°F (165°C).

  5. Place the pie bombs in the basket, leaving space between them.

  6. Cook for 7–8 minutes, or until golden brown.

  7. Serve warm and enjoy.

Helpful Tips

  • You can add a little cream cheese with the blueberry filling for a cheesecake-style version.

  • Try other fillings such as apple, cherry, or peach.

  • If you don’t have an air fryer, bake them in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 12–14 minutes.

Result:
These blueberry pie bombs are warm, sweet, and bursting with juicy fruit flavor. They’re simple to make but taste like a nostalgic homemade dessert straight from Grandma’s kitchen.
